A Case Report of Esthetic rehabilitation in a child with Early Childhood Caries

Background and purpose: One of the greatest challenges in pediatric dentistry is esthetic rehabilitation of children who suffered from anterior tooth loss as a result of early childhood caries (ECC) or extensive dental trauma. The placement of an esthetic fixed appliance is dependent to parental desires. Although the practitioner should consider several consideration to apply these appliances. This case report present use of anterior fixed space maintainer in child with ECC.
Case report: In this study a 4-year-old boy presented who referred to a dental clinic in Isfahan with a chief complaint of unesthetic appearance and Inability to chew with anterior teeth subsequent to ECC. After clinical and radiographic examination the posterior teeth was treated and upper anterior teeth was extracted. Six week later after healing extraction wound, appropriate bands were fitted on to the teeth and impressions were made. The appliance was checked before cementation for its aesthetics and occlusion and cemented using Glass ionomer cement (Fuji I.GC Corporation). The patient was recalled after 24 h, 1 month and was under regular follow up until 7 year old.
Conclusion: the anterior fixed appliance cause no discomfort or sore in regular follow up and improve child aesthetic and speech ability in the case studied.
