Comparison of anthropometric and conisity indexes between two groups with PMS syndrome and healthy students

Introduction

Body composition and body fat are important in people with premenstrual syndrome in the development or prevention of chronic diseases. Therefore, this study was designed to determine the anthropometric and conicity indexes in PMS and healthy

Materials and Methods:

This research is a descriptive-analytic study which was conducted on 92 dormitory students of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences who were selected by simple sampling method based on age criteria above age of 18 years in two groups with PMS and healthy syndrome. Data are recorded in two groups and analyzed.

Results:

In this study, 46 (54.8%) patients in the PMS group with an average age of 22.02 ± 1.51 and 38 (45.2%) were in the healthy group with an average of 21.34 ± 2.32 No statistically significant difference was found between the two groups (P = 0.08).the results of this study showed that this disorder was observed in relatives of patients with PMS significantly and Food and seasonal allergies in this group were also significantly higher than healthy students. Anthropometric indices (weight, BMI, waist circumference, WHR and WHtR) were significantly higher in students with menstrual syndrome than in healthy subjects but the two groups did not have any significant difference conicity index.

 

Conclusion:

The premenstrual syndrome group had higher anthropometric indices than healthy subjects, but no significant difference was observed between the two groups in conicity index, It seams, proportional weight and weight loss to reach the ideal weight  can affect the reduction of PMSsymptoms.
