Abstract:   (95 Views)
Background and Objective: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a critical life-saving procedure that significantly impacts patient survival rates in cardiac arrest cases. Medical students, as future healthcare providers, must acquire sufficient knowledge and practical skills in CPR to effectively manage emergency situations. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of CPR training on the knowledge of medical interns at Babol University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test study was conducted from 2019 to 2020 among sixth- and seventh-year medical interns and 127 students participated. A three-hour CPR training session, based on the 2015 American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, was conducted by an emergency medicine specialist. A researcher-developed multiple-choice questionnaire assessed students' knowledge before and after the training.
Findings: The findings indicated a significant improvement in CPR knowledge scores after the training (pre-test: 12.19±4.23; post-test: 19.28±5.28, p<0.001). Factors such as age, prior CPR experience, and pre-test knowledge scores were significant predictors of post-test scores. While both theoretical and practical prior CPR training were associated with higher scores, the effect was stronger among students with previous CPR experience.
Conclusion: CPR training effectively enhances medical interns' knowledge, highlighting the importance of structured and repeated training sessions.
