Methods: The main objective of this research was to compare the therapeutic effects of pirenzepine and ranitidine on peptic ulcer in rats. In this research ulcers were initially induced by oral administration of indomethacin (30 mg/kg) after 72 hours of fasting. Then, pirenzepine (5 mg/kg) and ranitidine (30 mg/kg) were orally administrated for one week. Findings: Then animals were sacrificed and the stomachs removed, the ulcers were measured macroscopically and the ulcer index (2mm) for each stomach was determined. For microscopic studies using H&E staining technique, the slides were prepared. Conclusion: From the macroscopic and microscopic results obtained, it was concluded that ranitidine is more effective than pirenzepine in treatment of peptic ulcer in rats. M3 ER -
